NewPaakkola involved in planning the production of ground drones
NewPaakkola, known for its conveyor systems, gained international attention just over a month ago when CEO Tommi Juntikka visited Kyiv as part of a Finnish business delegation. The visit took place on the fourth anniversary of the start of Russia’s war of aggression, during which two Finnish companies signed memoranda of understanding with Ukrainian partners.
“NewPaakkola signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint company focused on the production of UGV platforms together with the Ukrainian company Remtecnology and Finnish private investors,” says Tommi Juntikka.
A UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) is a robotic system that operates on land without a human driver. UGV platforms have been successfully used in the war in Ukraine as drone weapons, representing a modern development direction in the defense industry.
“The plan is to manufacture vehicle platforms in Finland without armament. In addition to military use, UGV vehicles are also suitable for tasks such as surveillance or for the needs of the agriculture and forestry sectors. The production plan includes not only manufacturing but also maintenance operations and product development. Utilizing intelligent technologies is an essential part of the production plan. The target markets include, among others, the Nordic and Baltic countries,” says Tommi Juntikka.
“Expanding into a new field is not new to us, as we have decades of experience in mechanical engineering and equipment manufacturing. We hope to create a significant number of new jobs,” concludes Tommi Juntikka.
NewPaakkola will provide the next update on the UGV project once the Finnish-Ukrainian joint venture has been established.
